Converting docx to doc files can be done with several ways.  Docx is the standard file extension  format for Microsoft Word 2007 and its equivalent are Microsoft (. xlsx) for Excel 2007 and (. pptx)  for PowerPoint 2007.
Microsoft might perhaps bet that  by making different file extension format previous users of older Microsoft Office 2003 will easily switch  to its predecessor. But until now many still prefer to to use MS Office in 2003 since many perceive it as more user friendly.
