Why is my computer so slow on start up? The main reason behind slow computer startup is typically because there are too many applications loading when the computer is on. Excessive startup programs may eat into computer resources and can also make computer run slow as there will be many applications running simultaneously.

To reduce then number of applications that load at startup go to Start  then Run  , and then type Msconfig, go over the startup lists and uncheck unneeded programs and applications. Make sure you create a system restore prior to disabling any startup programs to avoid screwing up with the application needed for the computer to load. System restore is a Windows tool to restore Windows to configurations set on certain dates. The second most common cause for a slow computer startup is there are too many Windows services running on the computer. Enable only essential Windows services, for example if you connect to the internet via a modem or router you can disable network-related services, or if you don’t use your computer or laptop to print documents you can deactivate “Print Spooler”. How to disable unnecessary Windows services?

Click on start  run , type msconfig  and click OK.  You will be prompted with  System Configuration Utility Windows. Click on services tab and uncheck the unnecessary services. Make sure that you do not disable services that Windows needs to run properly. Click Apply and OK. After disabling certain Windows services you will need to reboot your machine.  Upon restart, you will be prompted by the System Configuration Utility Windows , make sure you tick  the box ‘Do Not Show It Again’.

Which Windows Services to disable?

To disable a unnecessary  Windows services right click on My Computer and click on Manage, double click on Services & Applications, then  hit the Services Tab. Disable services that have no dependencies by right clicking on any service , and then click properties., after that click on Dependency  tab. If there is no dependencies shown on the two boxes bellow the Dependency tab, you can safely disable a service.
