How To Use JAP – Jondo Tutorial

More and more offices and schools block favorite social networking sites like Facebook, Orkut, Myspace, Bebo and so on using web filters and firewalls. There are a several ways to get around  the firewall or web filter run by your corporate office or schools. One of the methods you can do to unblock websites at schools, At work or in countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates where Goverments impose internet censorship is using tunneling software. Well, there are a bunch of them, but this time I will discuss a very handy application that lets you circumvent restrictive web filters and unblock website

JAP / JonDo enabled its users to unblock websites and  stay anonymous on the internet by giving access to strong anonymization systems. It hides the users IP address from internet site operators, network administrators ,  intelligence agencies and even the operators of the accessed anonymization systems.
Each application that should be anonymized has to be configured separately for using JAP / JonDo.

This is a follow up to my previous postings on unblock sites with your freedom and surf the web  anonymously with  SSH  tunneling.

In SSH connection : After you’re connected to the remote server you need to configure your browser and application to listen local  Socks proxy  (127.0.0.1 port 1080). The problem is some applications such as peer-to-peer software simply do not work with socks  proxy or do not have the option of connecting to the internet via sock proxy thus in this case you need to have a direct connection to run the application.

In Your Freedom : The same is true when  you’re connecting to your freedom server to bypass proxy server or unblock web  sites and use certain application behind  a restrictive firewall or web proxy server. Such  applications as torrent software (not all anyway) do not work with http proxy or Sock proxy.

One alternative to work around this is to use proxifying software. One such application is Proxifier.  Essentially Proxifier  works to proxify connection made through socks proxy server as if  you’re connected to the internet directly while in fact you’re connected to remote ssh server or your freedom server.

Bellow is a step-by step tutorial to use Proxifier  with Your freedom and SSH tunneling client .

A. Using  Proxifier  With Your Freedom

  • Download Proxifier  here
  • Install Proxifier  on your computer
  • Configure your freedom to use Sock proxy as shown bellow :

  • After you’re connected to the your freedom server, open the installed Proxifier   and configure the proxy setting to use your freedom Socks Proxy as shown in the picture bellow:

  • Configure Proxifier  to use remote DNS by clicking the small  DNS icon

  • Next in the Proxification  rules add javaw.exe files  located in the folder where you install Java Run Time : Option ——–>  Proxification Rules ——–>Add—–>Add ——> and locate javaw.exe file which  typically in the following folder  : C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin

You will now be able to connect to the remote your freedom servers “directly “ without having to configure your browser or applications to use proxy.

B. Use   Proxifier  With SSH Client (Tunnelier)

Basically the procedure is more or less the same:
Connected to the SSH server. To find out more on  a step-by-step tutorial to surf  unanimously using SSH tunneling   Click here
fter you’re connected, set the Proxification Rules  by pointing  the file Tunnelier.exe  :

The last step is to make sure that Proxifier  has been configured properly by clicking on the “Proxy Checker” Icon

Now you have the privileged access to run any applications behind s filtering web proxy or a firewall by combining your freedom and SSH Connection. :)

SSH Tunneling With Tunnelier and Proxifier Tutorial

What is SSH?

Secure Shell or SSH is a network protocol that allows data to be exchanged employing a secure channel between two networked devices] Used chiefly on Linux and Unix based systems to access shell accounts, SSH was designed as a substitution for Telnet and other insecure remote shells, which send information, notably passwords, in plain text, leaving them open for interception. The encryption used by SSH allows for confidentiality and integrity of data over an vulnerable network, such as the Internet. SH uses public-key cryptography to authenticate the remote computer and allow the remote computer to authenticate the user, if necessary. SSH is commonly utilized to log into a remote machine and execute commands, but it also supports tunneling, forwarding TCP ports and X11 connections; it can channel files using the associated SFTP or SCP protocols.

Surfing anonymously With SSH Tunneling : Step By Step Tutorial

Step One: Register With SSH Providers

Register with SSH server providers, there are a heck of them , you simply put the word “SSH Account” in the search engine box. I personally use a free SSH account from Rootshell , you may register to get yours by visiting their website at www.rootshell.be . When registering make sure you provide a reasonable and convincing explanation as to why you want to use their free ssh service. It usually takes three until four days before your application gets approved and you will get  an email notification when your registration is successful . If otherwise your registration is rejected you will not get an email notification. From my personal experience ,  given it is a free service you will usually not get a stable  connection, meaning you will get disconnected occasionally. If you wish to get the most out of SSH connection you’re advised to  subscribe to paid SSH services.

Step Two : Install SSH Client

In order for you to be able to connect the remote  SSH Server you need to install SSH client on your computer. Putty is the most popular one and  is widely used by tech savvy web surfers to surf the web anonymously. I personally use Tunnelier, a free SSH client which I figure more user friendly and easier to configure. You may download tunnelier here. After finish downloading Tunnelier click the the installer twice and follow the instruction.

Step Three : Configure Tunnelier SSH Client

Now you have installed Tunnelier on your computer, the next step is to configure it by setting the required parameters. Put in the server name or the remote SSH proxy server and port you will be using to connect to it in the host and port fields. Typically the default port is 22 though you may also use other ports such as 443, 80 etc . You may ask your SSH service providers what ports are available.  Also don’t forget to fill in your user name and password  with which you register with the SSH server providers next to the server menu and check the “store encrypted password in profile” box.

Next step would be to fill in your local proxy and port by clicking on the “proxy settings”  if  you surf the web  behind company or school proxies .  Set the proxy type to HTTP as most companies or schools use HTTP proxy as opposed to SOCK proxy. If you are accessing the internet directly just leave the proxy settings field blank.

Put Your Proxy and Port

Next : Configure Tunnelier to reconnect automatically just in case your connection get disconnected by checking  the  “always reconnect automatically” located in the options tab.

Next : In the Services tab enable forwarding option by checking the box in the SOCKS/HTTP Forwarding option menu and  leave other parameters unchanged.

Next : Now  Back to the login tab, and click on the login until you’re connected to the SSH server .

Wait until connection with remote SSH server has established indicated by the Tunnelier icon in the right bottom corner turns white from grey.

Step Four : Configure Your Browser to surf  Anonymously

Now you have connected to the remote SSH server, the final step is to configure your browser to connect through remote server  by setting your browser proxy settings to 127.0.01 port 1080.  In internet explorer you can locate proxy settings  : Tool ——> Connections ——–> LAN Settings ——-> Advanced

In Firefox : proxy settings is defined in the following Tool ——> Options ——–>Network ——-> Advanced.

Done!! …….  Now you can surf the web anonymously without leaving traces in your internet service provider, the visited websites or your company or school web server.

Note :  This tutorial specifically deals with how to use your browsers to surf the net anonymously without the curious eyes of your school or office administrators.

Note :

Some applications may not work with SOCK proxy and require additional “proxifying software” such as Proxifier. Click  the following link : Use Proxifier with Your Freedom and Tunnelier to find out more.

Bypass Proxy Server With VPN

What is VPN?

A virtual private network (VPN) is virtual connection made over  the Internet or other public networks, allowing remote offices or individual to establish  a secure link between the different locations with  their organization’s network. A VPN works by using the shared public infrastructure while maintaining privacy through security procedures and tunneling protocols such as the Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP).  An additional level of security involves encrypting not only the data, but also the originating and receiving network addresses. VPN is also particularly  useful for those wanting to browse unanimously to  access social network sites such as Facebook or Twitter or use popular application/ online games  restricted by network filters.

Bypass proxy server with VPN, Step-By-Step

VPN technogy is  used in environments where, for some reason, access to the internet is restricted. It can be used by any individual who simply wants to protect his privacy, either on a LAN or a public hotspot.
To bypass proxy server or firewall at schools or office you need to install openVPN on the  server and client side or you can simply connect to VPN provider with your VPN Account . The connection is encrypted both on the connection ends so you don’t leave traces on your office or school web proxies. VPN is also used  by those living in a country (Such as United Arab Emirates , Iran  China)  where internet censorship is put into force to “bypass proxy server”.
